Tug of War Team

Thp launched its very own Tug of war squad in 2007.Our first appearance being at Dunnington show. This squad pulled at most country shows. This proved vital to our development as an up and coming TOW team, giving us all great experience and understanding of Tug of War itself. Since then we have gone from strength to strength now being one of the best Tug of War teams in Yorkshire.

Neil Hudson is the founder of this team. Working closely with Dennis Watson our coach they have succeed in recruiting and training a group of very focused and talented young men.

The Thp TOW team have had many successes since they formed and compete to a very high standard. This success is down to the dedication and drive of our team members who all train together each week at our training ground in New Earswick.

The team have now reached such a high standard of pulling that they can now be seen pulling in federation events.

Our 2009 Season

We attended Spilsby show in July. It was a glorious day and we were very pleased to be pulling amongst some of the best Tug Of war teams in the UK. Holland proved to all why they have such a great reputation, being the strongest team on the day. Our 600k team however did manage to pull them to the line, but unfortunately, it was not meant to be as it was discarded on a technicality.

Here are some photographs showing our teams in action.

This month we have also attended Copmanthorpe Carnival, Barmby Moor Feast, Malton Show and Dunnington Show.

We won at all these events. It was well deserved by the boys who did some exceptional pulling and really showed the meaning of team work.

They came home with some lovely trophy's which are on display in the main office.

This recent photograph was taken at a Federation event in Heckington. Heckington is one of the longest running shows, running for over 150 years. It never fails to attract great teams to the Tug of War competition, such as Holland, Barton, Woodton and of course ourselves.

From left to right our team members are our Anchor man Ben Dodsworth, (7) Neil Hudson (6) Andrew Frary, (5) On loan , (4) Steve Moss, (3) Oliver Hudson, (2) Reece Snaith, (1) David Booth.

This was an all day competition, the weather was on our side, so with conditions good the pulling proved to be a fantastic hit with a very excitable crowd

Our team was entered into a range of weight categories, the photograph above shows our team pulling the 720k. After some sheer determination from our team they walked away with the silver medals in all our categories, our best pulling reaching times just short of two minutes.

This was a very successful day for THP
